Parc des Familles sits on 610 acres of land that is being developed into a multifaceted recreational complex. The basic design concept is to include areas for three types of recreational activities – active, passive, and environmental. Estelle Playground represents the “active” area and is accessed through the North Gate of the park.
This playground includes a gymnasium and a sports complex comprised of four baseball fields, four soccer fields, a football field, batting cages, concessions, and a press box. A 5½-mile mountain bike trail also starts in this area and winds its way through the entire park. Parallel to the mountain bike path is a walking trail that connects the north end of the park to the south end.
The South Gate of Parc des Familles brings visitors to the passive/environmental area. This area now includes a raised boardwalk through a marsh area, a marina, fishing piers, kayak rental and launch areas, a dog park, and a spray park (splash pad), along with picnic tables and pavilions. Both the mountain bike trail and the walking trail connect to this area.
Also located here is the No. 1-rated disc golf course, Grand Cypress Bayou at Parc des Familles. The newly enhanced disc golf course was redesigned by the Houck Design Group and features state-of-the-art tee pads, making it one of the most challenging courses in the sport. The disc golf course is free to the public.
Finally, a visitor center with ADA-accessible restrooms is located here. All areas are open to the public, though a nominal fee may be required to rent certain facilities.
The park’s Master Plan is currently being updated and is expected to highlight many more exciting amenities that will come to the park in the future. Parc des Familles is currently open from 7:00 am until dusk, seven days a week.
